My name is Anne (not her real name) and today is my last day staying at the shelter in Englewood. My three-year-old son and I came into the program after being victims of a very bad domestic violence incident. He and I were both traumatized, and I had no idea how I was going to rebuild our lives.
When we came to the shelter, I found more than I had expected. I didn’t just find resources and programs to help me get on my feet, but I found everyone who worked here to be caring and kind. You truly have amazing employees who go the extra mile to make sure the shelter residents are taken care of in all aspects.
Today my son and I start a new chapter, and we’ll be moving into our own apartment. I am confident in saying none of this would be possible if it weren’t for Gateway and their extraordinary employees. Thank you for helping my son and me get on our feet. I will always be thankful for the people I met here and all of the help I received. Some people choose their careers because they have a calling, but the employees here at the shelter have made helping people their lives work.
